Maumee River Commission - "Maumee Stroll"

This piece is truly monumental at five feet square. It was made for the wall that it hangs on and reflects the grounds between the house and the river. The Sycamore trees are painted with silver leaf in between the layers of cold wax and paint. This process was conceived during an earlier painting that I posted with this project in mind. I was really pleased with the result. Take a look at the close up to see some of the playful sgraffito (drawing back in to reveal the lower color) that I felt added a little needed whimsy.

Three Giant Sunflowers

Another fun commission for a young family. These three sunflowers represent the three kids that are being raised in this awesome family home. Each sunflower panel is 2' wide and 6' tall. The collectors picked the concept from a small group of sketches. I think the scale and tone of these works look great in their space. 

These are painted entirely with a knife. Here is a close up of the foliage:

Blue Orchard II

This piece hangs in the home of a special family in Clarkston, Michigan. The couple has a 3 year old daughter named Daphne. The three trees represent the family. I could have removed little Daphne's things that are strewn about, but I chose to keep them in the picture. The tiny slippers are Cinderella slippers...I happily remember those times with my girls.

This piece is painted on a 4' square wood panel. The oil paint is applied with a palette knife. The Blue Orchard painting that preceded this was painted with a brush. Here are a couple of close ups:

Glamazons Commissioned

A few years ago a did a series of these 6' tall sunflower panels which I named my "Glamazon Series". I imagined each of them as eighties super models. They were beautiful, strong and fun. That series was the inspiration for this commission. Lots of playful color fof a huge wall. I will post a picture once they are installed.  Thank you Tom and Kathryn!

Bespoke Poppies on a Purple wall - yummm!

These were made just for this hallway that connects the front entry to the dining room and kitchen. The owners spotted my work at the Rochester Art and Apples Festival this year where they were inspired by another poppy piece that was not quite big enough. Fortunately, I was able to see the space and help them solve the challenge of making the work so that it could be seen from either end of the hall. We did it by creating two companion pieces that are 3' x 3' each and spaced them a little over one foot apart.
